From WIRED: a story of e-mail and encryption.  Encryption is great to protect your information from hackers and "Carnivore" style searches, but a court order is an entirely different thing. 

What's the bottom line?  Hushmail offers a great service, but they're a legitimate company, and they're going to comply with court orders.  That's just the way it is.  So don't do illegal stuff.  And if you insist on doing illegal stuff, don't expect other companies to hide your information when presented with a court order.
